REINTEGRATION OF HUMAN TRAFFIC SURVIVORS
THROUGH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CRAFT COOPERATIVE IN HAI DUONG, VIETNAM
DONOR: AUTONOMOUS PROVINCE OF TRENTO
The project aims to give to Human Traffic Survivors the possibility to be reintegrated in the society. In order to achieve this goal, it will set up a cooperative of women that will produce textile craft, using local products. The commercialization will be in the American and European fair trade market. In this way it will guarantee the economic sustainability. At the end of the project, the workers will manage it through the creation of a Management Committee. The workers will be totally free to decide the internal policy of the cooperative and be independent.

A PAKISTANI GIRL'S CALL FOR PEACE
Prevented from attending school, 11-year-old Malalay speaks out about peace and her right to an education. Due to recent violence, including Malalay's native Swat valley, hundreds of schools have been burned down. In addition, millions of people have been forced to flee the ongoing conflict between the Taliban and Pakistani military. Together, these factors are "causing girls to lose their right to an education," says ActionAid.
EQUALITY BEFORE THE LAW: CONCRETE STEPS TO FURTHER WOMEN'S EQUALITY
The Human Rights Council held its annual full-day discussion on women's human rights entitled equality before the law: concrete steps to further women's equality. The discussion focused on non-discrimination in the law, with a view to identifying concrete steps to further women's equality. The first part addressed institutional perspectives on equality before the law and the second part presented a wider perspective from academia and civil society.
WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR, HREA.ORG e ILO.ORG
Whilst celebrating progress made during the past ten years, the World Day will highlight the continuing challenges, with a focus on exploitation of girls in child labour. Many poor families are unable to afford school fees or other school costs. The family may depend on the contribution that a working child makes to the household’s income, and place more importance on that than on education. And when a family has to make a choice between sending either a boy or girl to school, it is often the girl who loses out.

European Women's Lobby Resource Kit on Institutional Mechanisms for the Promotion of Equality between Women and Men, European Women's Lobby, January 2009. This resource kit aims at helping NGOs and other interested actors to evaluate and influence international and European institutions as well as their national governments and enable them to strengthen weak or inefficient institutional mechanisms dealing with women's rights and gender equality.
INTERNSHIP
HUMAN RIGHTS INTERSHIP
The Human Rights and Governance Grants Program (HRGGP) and the Scholarship Programs of the Open Society Institute announce the Human Rights Internship. The internship is intended to attract recent graduates of master's and LLM programs in the social sciences, law, and humanities to the human rights sector, giving them the opportunity to gain first-hand research experience in the field of human rights, government accountability, or penal reform. Successful candidates receive a locally determined stipend and the opportunity to work in one of the leading human rights and accountability advocacy organizations in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Internships last from 6 to 12 months, depending on the research topic and scope. For the upcoming year, the Open Society Institute will support up to 10 internships.
COURSE
From 16 September to 24 November 2009, HREA is offering an e-learning course: Monitoring Women's Rights. This distance learning course is a basic introduction to measuring and monitoring the status of women and gender equality, including basic health and welfare, education, civil rights and freedoms, and special protection measures. The course will address the full cycle of monitoring, including tool development; methodologies for carrying out monitoring; and the application of results for improving the respect, protection and realisation of women's human rights.

Change for Equality: on 2 July at a ceremony held in the City of Bolzano, Italy, Shirin Ebadi, the recipient of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize, accepted the 2009 Alexander Langer Award on behalf of the journalist Nargess Mohammadi, who could not be present at the award celebration held in her honor.
